A shirtless man dancing on the roof of a moving Jeep was ejected onto a Texas highway Saturday evening after the vehicle collided with another car near Port Aransas, leaving him in critical condition.
The crash occurred just after 7 p.m. Saturday on State Highway 361 near Access Road 1A on Mustang Island, according to Port Aransas police. Video shared on social media captured the 22-year-old passenger climbing through the sunroof of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler and twerking on top of the vehicle moments before impact.
The Jeep collided with a Tesla, and the force of the crash threw the rooftop passenger onto the roadway. He was transported to a hospital in Corpus Christi, where he remains in critical condition, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. At least one other person involved in the collision was hospitalized with a serious head injury.
Footage from the crash site showed three swimsuit-clad young people standing near the shattered Jeep while EMS personnel attended to the injured on the roadway.
The Jeep’s driver, Riley Rhoades, 24, was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of intoxication assault. Court documents obtained by KIII 3 News show Rhoades registered blood alcohol content levels of .14 and .12 during breath tests, well above Texas’ legal limit of .08. He is being held in the Nueces County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
