‘Sesame Street’ Signs Deal With New Partner To Stream 56th Season This Year

Sesame Street will soon stream on Netflix, following a new deal with Sesame Workshop. The beloved children’s show will debut its reimagined fifty-sixth season on the platform later this year, alongside 90 hours of previous episodes. Episodes will also air on PBS and PBS Kids digital platforms the same day they launch on Netflix, ensuring free access for U.S. viewers.

The new season will feature format changes, focusing on an 11-minute story per episode, and will include popular segments like ‘Elmo’s World’ and ‘Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck.’ A new animated segment called ‘Tales From 123’ will also be introduced.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this partnership comes after HBO Max chose not to renew its contract with Sesame Street. The deal provides financial stability for Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind the show, and expands its global reach through Netflix.

Netflix will also have the opportunity to develop video games based on the long-running children’s show. Deadline reports that the show’s executive producers are Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings, with Halcyon Person joining as head writer.

This new arrangement maintains Sesame Street’s mission of providing educational content to children while adapting to the evolving media landscape.
