Residents of the Ashton Sherman Village Apartments in Valley Village, are expressing concerns over security following the unsolved murder of 53-year-old Menash “Manny” Hidra. His body was discovered in his fifth-floor apartment on April 26, prompting fears about safety in the upscale complex.
Despite the murder, tenants report seeing transients roaming the halls. On April 23, a resident heard screams and loud noises at around 3 a.m., which led to a call to security and the police. Doorbell camera footage captured a suspect attempting to enter apartments around that time. The LAPD has released footage of a man believed to be the suspect, but details remain scarce.
Residents are frustrated with management’s response, which they feel has been inadequate. According to KTLA, tenants have complained about broken security measures and transients accessing the roof. The building’s ongoing paint job has added scaffolding, which residents describe as a “real-life ‘Chutes and Ladders'” for intruders.
The LAPD describes the suspect as a Hispanic male, aged 30 to 40, and urges anyone with information to contact their Valley Bureau. The case remains open, and residents continue to demand improved security measures from management.
