A bombshell congressional report reveals that a local police officer incapacitated Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old who targeted former President Donald Trump during an assassination attempt, before he was killed by a Secret Service sniper, the Daily Mail reports.
A preliminary report from Rep. Clay Higgins (R-Louisiana) differed from information previously shared by the FBI shared publicly two months prior. The previous report claimed that Crooks was shot in the head by a Secret Service sniper within seconds from opening fire at Trump, however, Higgins’ report claims a local SWAR operator was responsible for incapacitating the shooting.
Higgins claimed the officer’s shot “hit Crooks’ rifle and fragged his face/neck/right shoulder area from the (gun) stock breaking up,” which prohibited him from continuing shooting, before the shot that ultimately killed him. The new report was shared weeks after Higgins had also revealed that Crooks’ body was cremated with approval from the FBI 10 days after the incident took place.
Trump’s right ear was grazed during the shooting and he was seen yelling “fight” to his supporters while being evacuated from the rally by Secret Service members. One spectator, identified as Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed during the incident while two others, David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, and James Copenhaver, 74, were initially critically wounded but later upgraded to stable condition.
Cooks was taken out by Secret Service agents within seconds from opening fire, though also reported to be on officials’ radar as a suspicious person more than 90 minutes before opening fire. Trump officially accepted the Republican presidential nomination during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 18.
