Authorities in Ventura County are searching for a missing kayaker off the coast of Oxnard. The search began on Sunday night (March 23) after a call was received around 9:45 p.m. near Channel Islands Harbor. An unattended kayak, containing fishing tackle, was discovered near the breakwater, prompting the search.
The Ventura County Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard were involved in the search efforts, which included boats, helicopters, and on-foot teams, according to KTLA. The search was called off shortly after midnight with no sign of the kayaker.
As of Monday morning (March 24), it remains unclear if the search will resume. Channel Islands Harbor, known for its water activities and scenic views, is a popular destination for kayaking and other recreational activities.
