DOWNEY (CNS) – Downey Police Acting Chief Scott Loughner has been promoted to chief to oversee the department’s operations, it was announced Thursday.
Loughner stepped in as interim police chief in December after Leslie Murray retired, capping a 32-year career.
Loughner joined the Downey Police Department as a recruit in 1999 and climbed the ranks, serving as a sergeant and lieutenant prior to his promotion to captain in 2021, according to the department.
“My commitment is to work closely with our officers, professional staff, city leaders, and community members to ensure Downey remains safe to live, work and visit,” Loughner said.
Fullerton-born Loughner was raised in Placentia and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from CSU Fullerton, and a Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration from CSU Long Beach.
Loughner started his new role on Wednesday.
