SANTA MONICA (CNS) – The Santa Monica Pier will reopen Monday after a shooting left two people wounded last night, sending visiting scrambling for safety.
The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. Sunday. Officer were dispatched to the pier after shots were reported, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
Preliminary information indicated there was a large fight involving multiple people before shots rang out and two people suffered what were believed to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The cause of the fight was not immediately known.
Video from the scene showed people on the beach scrambling after the shots rang out. Arriving officers tended to the wounded until paramedics arrived to take them to a hospital, police said.
The age and genders of the wounded were not immediately available, but police said their injuries were not life-threatening.
Officers secured the shooting scene for their investigation.
A watch commander said Monday morning that the pier would be open Monday, but the shooting investigation continues.
