Santa Clarita Park Faces Issues with Late Night Parties

Pacific Crest Park in Santa Clarita has become a hotspot for late-night gatherings, underage drinking, and violence. On Saturday, a fight broke out among teenagers at the park, resulting in two teens being hospitalized and one arrested. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the altercation involved a male juvenile smashing a bottle over another’s head, causing non-life-threatening injuries. Another teen was also injured, though details remain unspecified.

The park, located at 29051 Garnet Canyon Drive near Saugus, is known for its family-friendly atmosphere during the day, serving as a practice field for youth football. However, residents report that crowds of young people start gathering between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., turning the park into a party spot. Derek Shirley, a neighbor, noted, “They tell another group of 10 and they tell another group of 10 and suddenly it’s 100 people. When it’s 100 people, unfortunately, they’re probably doing some drinking.”

The incident has prompted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to plan increased enforcement of Santa Clarita’s curfew law, which prohibits anyone under 18 from being out between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. without an adult. The same night, several adults were arrested nearby for hosting a party where minors were drinking, and some of those minors were later seen at Pacific Crest Park.

Saugus resident Greg Springer emphasized the need for parental supervision, saying, “The parents got to keep a tight leash on their kids, get to know where they are, who they’re hanging out with.”

KTLA reported that video footage shows deputies detaining the juvenile involved in the fight. The park closes at 10:30 p.m., but gatherings often continue past closing time, leading to increased concerns about safety and law enforcement involvement.
