Santa Ana Winds Continue in Some LA Areas, Along With High Temperatures

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Santa Ana winds forecasted Wednesday to continue gusting across parts of Los Angeles County, with the windy weather expected to continue into at least Thursday.

The winds were being accompanied by warmer and drier weather, with temperatures expected to top out on Wednesday before starting a slow cooling trend into early next week.

Wind advisories were extended to Wednesday by the National Weather Service for some areas of Southern California and it cautioned residents to expect gusty offshore winds across the area, especially in the Santa Ana-prone areas of Los Angeles County until at least Wednesday afternoon.

“Santa Ana winds will increase some Wednesday into Thursday, then weaken again late in the week,” said the NWS. “Warm and dry conditions will coincide with the offshore winds, with notable cooling expected through Saturday.”

Wind advisories will be in effect until 2 p.m. Wednesday in much of the county, including the Malibu coast, Santa Clarita Valley, Calabasas, the western Santa Monica Mountains Recreational area, and the western San Gabriel Mountains.

Wind advisories were canceled, however, early Tuesday afternoon in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains and western San Fernando Valley, with forecasters saying the winds had diminished in those areas.

In areas still under advisories, forecasters said residents could expect winds of 15 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 to 55 mph in some areas.

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result,” forecasters said. “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Use extra caution.”
