Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez Bring Their ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ Tour To LA

Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are set to visit downtown Los Angeles on Saturday as part of their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. The tour aims to address income inequality and the influence of billionaires in government. While their main focus is on Republican-held districts in Idaho and Montana, the stop in Los Angeles, a city that supported Sanders in the 2016 and 2020 Democratic primaries, offers a chance to energize their base and prepare for future elections.

The rally will take place at Gloria Molina Grand Park in California’s 34th Congressional District, represented by Democrat Jimmy Gomez. According to the Daily News, the visit to Los Angeles is strategic, allowing Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez to connect with their supporters and build a list of potential voters for upcoming elections. Political strategist Michael Trujillo emphasized the importance of visiting blue cities to gather support and resources for future campaigns.

The event will feature special musical guests Neil Young, Maggie Rogers, and Joan Baez, as noted on Bernie Sanders’ official event page. Doors open at 9:00 AM, with music and guest speakers starting at 9:30 AM. The speaking program begins at 1:00 PM.

Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez have been vocal critics of President Donald Trump, particularly regarding his administration’s budget cuts and policies affecting social services. In a statement, Sanders expressed concern over billionaires’ control of the government and the impact of tax breaks for the wealthy on programs like Medicaid and Social Security.

Despite a busy weekend in Southern California, with events like the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez are expected to draw large crowds. The rally aims to inspire their progressive base and demonstrate the growing resistance within the Democratic Party.
