San Bernardino Man Seeks Justice After Deputy Kills Dog

A San Bernardino man, Jesus Serna, is seeking justice after a deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department shot and killed his dog, Daisy, on Monday.

The incident occurred while the deputy was investigating a stolen car parked in the neighborhood, according to a report by WRIC ABC 8News.

Surveillance footage captured the deputy entering Serna’s backyard after opening a gate. He was first greeted by Raven, one of Serna’s dogs, who appeared friendly. However, when Daisy, a rottweiler, approached barking, the deputy fired his weapon, killing the dog. Serna, who was not home at the time, received a call from authorities informing him of the incident. He expressed his shock and outrage, stating, “She was just defending her home.”

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the stolen vehicle was unrelated to Serna or his property. In a statement, the department said, “While searching the property, the deputy encountered a homeowner’s dog. During the encounter, the deputy discharged his firearm, striking the dog.” The department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including reviewing body camera and surveillance footage, as reported by AOL.

After the shooting, deputies took Raven to a local animal shelter, and Serna was required to pay nearly $250 for her release. Serna is now demanding answers and disciplinary action against the deputy involved, expressing concern over the department’s handling of the situation. “They randomly go into someone’s house and do whatever they want,” he told The Mirror.
