Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the U.S. The Health Secretary has made a significant statement endorsing the MMR vaccine as “the most effective way to prevent the spread of measles.” This comes amid a growing measles outbreak in West Texas, which has claimed the lives of two unvaccinated children. The outbreak has spread to Kansas and Oklahoma, highlighting the urgency of effective public health communication.
As of Sunday, there were 642 confirmed cases of measles across 22 states, with 499 of those cases reported in Texas.
Kennedy visited West Texas to console the families affected by the measles outbreak and announced the redeployment of a team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assist in containment efforts.
“The most effective way to prevent the spread of measles is the MMR vaccine. I’ve spoken to Governor Abbott, and I’ve offered HHS’ continued support. At his request, we have redeployed CDC teams to Texas. We will continue to follow Texas’ lead and to offer similar resources to other affected jurisdictions,” Kennedy wrote on X.
