Connecticut Representative John Larson experienced a medical incident on Monday (February 10) while delivering a speech on the House floor. The 76-year-old Democrat paused mid-sentence for nearly 20 seconds while discussing concerns about President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s influence over the federal government. After resuming, Larson spoke in a slower and lower tone, with noticeable pauses.
Initially, Larson’s office attributed the incident to an “adverse reaction” to a new medication. However, further testing revealed that Larson had a complex partial seizure. The congressman, who had a heart valve replacement 15 years ago, explained that such symptoms can occur in individuals with his condition. Larson assured the public that he would resume his duties and be present for voting on the House floor the following day.
In a statement, Larson expressed gratitude to the House attending physician, Dr. Brian Monahan, and the medical staff for their care. He also thanked his family, friends, and constituents for their support.
“The doctors have prescribed medication that, according to them, will greatly reduce the chance of this happening again. I will be able to resume an active schedule, including my duties as a Member of Congress, beginning tomorrow, when I plan to be present and voting on the House floor,” Larson said.
