The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expanding its recall for tater tot products reported to possibly be contaminated with pieces of hard plastic.
The FDA initiated the recall for tater tots produced by the firm McCain Foods USA Inc. on January 12 and announced additional batch codes on February 10. The recalled tots reported to possibly contain small, hard plastic fragments were sold in 28 states: Alaska, Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
The expanded recall includes more than 21,600 cases of tater tot products equaling an estimated 648,000 pounds and includes the following listings:
- Ore-Ida Tater Tots shaped potatoes
- 21,557 cases – 30 pounds per case
