LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Grammy-winning rapper Jay Rock was detained by police after trying to flee from his vehicle Thursday after officers stopped him in the Watts area.
The rapper, who is from Watts and whose real name is Johnny Reed McKinzie, was pulled over by Los Angeles Police Department officers around 6 p.m. Thursday, ABC7 reported. He tried to run from his vehicle and was subsequently detained by police, according to ABC7.
LAPD officers recovered a firearm inside the vehicle.
Rock ran from the officers when they would not tell him why he was being detained, ABC7 reported,
The 39-year-old Rock won a Grammy for the 2019 song “King’s Dead”. He is known for his work with music label Top Dawg Entertainment and his collaborations with Kendrick Lamar.
