Puerto Rico Shadow Senator Gives Presidential Endorsement Amid Controversy

Puerto Rico’s Republican Shadow United States Senator Zoraida Buxó endorsed former President Donald Trump despite controversial comments made about the island by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe during his Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday (October 29).

“I strongly and fully support and endorse Donald J. Trump to be our 47th president — to make America great again and, of course, to make Puerto Rico shine again,” Buxó said during a Trump rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Tuesday (October 29) night.

“We need this man back in the White House,” she later added after being brought back on stage by Trump. “We need this man to be our commander-in-chief. He will make us feel safe, and he will protect us.”

Buxó was one of three Hispanic speakers to show support for Trump, along with local business leader Tim Ramos and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), in the majority Latino city of Allentown. Trump also attempted to distance himself from Hinchcliffe, claiming he had “no idea” who the comedian was and referred to his joke calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” as “nasty” while speaking to FOX News host Sean Hannity.

“I still have — I have no idea who he is,” Trump told Hannity.

“Somebody said there was a comedian that joked about Puerto Rico or something, and I have no idea who he is, never saw him, never heard of him and don’t want to hear of him,” he added, claiming Hinchcliffe wasn’t vetted, but noted that “it’s nobody’s fault.”
