Protest Erupts in Santa Ana Over Suspected Cat Killer’s Bail

Around 100 people gathered on Sunday night in Santa Ana to protest the release of Alejandro Oliveros Acosta, who was arrested on suspicion of killing more than a dozen cats. Acosta, 45, was released on bail after being charged with felony animal abuse. The protest began as a vigil outside his home, but tensions escalated, leading to chaos in the neighborhood.

According to FOX 11, the crowd mistakenly surrounded a house across the street, believing it to be the residence of Acosta’s brother. During the disturbance, windows were broken, and a resident was pepper-sprayed. The man, who was not related to Acosta, expressed concern for his family’s safety, stating, “They’re scaring kids here. It’s scaring the whole family.”

The protest turned violent, with some attendees attempting to calm the situation. One participant commented, “We did expect a vigil. We thought it was going to be peaceful, but it did get a little violent here today.” Santa Ana police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly and intervened after more than an hour.

Neighbors expressed fear and confusion, with some planning to report their missing cats to the police, suspecting Acosta’s involvement.
