A quadruple amputee professional cornhole player facing murder and multiple related charges waived his right to an extradition hearing on Thursday (March 26), the Associated Press reports
Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, was arraigned in the District Court of Maryland for Charles County and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and assault in the first degree in connection with the fatal shooting of Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, according to court documents obtained by FOX 5 DC. Webber also faces an additional count of assault in the first degree stemming from an incident involving an individual identified as Bradwick Webber.
The 27-year-old is in police custody and took part in a court hearing through a video call on Thursday, though it’s unclear when he’ll return to Maryland.
“I am trying to go back to Maryland,” Webber said during the court hearing in a calm tone.
Wells was reportedly sitting in the front passenger seat when Dayton Webber picked up two witnesses in a work vehicle, according to the statement of charges filed by Det. M. Bigelow of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. An argument allegedly broke out between Webber and Wells and the witnesses, identified as W1 and W2, claim that Webber pulled out a firearm and shot Wells in the head twice.
Webber then allegedly pulled over the vehicle and asked the passengers to remove Wells from the car, which they said they refused to do before exiting the vehicle and flagging down a police officer, according to the documents. Webber allegedly drove off with Wells still inside the car and a resident in Charlotte Hall later discovered Wells’ body on the side of the road.
Both W1 and W2 identified Webber as the shooter and Wells as the victim, which led to the murder and assault charges. Webber was found in Charlottesville seeking hospital treatment and is awaiting extradition to Charles County, where he’ll formally face the charges.
The 27-year-old underwent quadruple amputation as a baby after a blood infection, but managed to go pro in the American Cornhole League, having been featured on The TODAY Show.
