President Trump Said Iran ‘Called To Negotiate’ Amid Widespread Protests

President Donald Trump announced that Iran has expressed a willingness to negotiate, even as he warned of potential military action due to Iran’s violent crackdown on protests. The protests, which have led to hundreds of deaths, began over economic issues and have evolved into a broader challenge against the regime’s rule. Activists report that over 500 protesters have been killed and more than 10,600 arrested during the unrest, which has been met with a severe response from Iranian security forces.

The Iranian government has imposed an internet and phone blackout to control the flow of information, but some videos have still emerged, showing the scale of the demonstrations. Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that while the country is ready for war, it is also open to dialogue based on mutual respect.

President Trump mentioned that a meeting with Iranian officials is being set up, but he emphasized that the U.S. might need to act before any negotiations take place. The U.S. military is considering various options, including military strikes and cyberattacks, as reported by CNN.

The protests, which have spread to over 185 cities, are partly fueled by economic grievances and calls to end Iran’s theocracy. Despite the crackdown, there are no signs of significant dissent within Iran’s security apparatus. Meanwhile, international leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, have called for restraint and respect for freedom of expression.

The situation remains tense as both the U.S. and Iran signal openness to negotiations, but mutual distrust and unresolved issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program, complicate the prospects for dialogue.
