A teacher who worked at a prep school that emphasized on “moral” virtues was arrested after telling a colleague about her sexual relationship with an underage student.
Jocelyn Sanroman, 26, of Pontiac, faces a third-degree sexual conduct with a 16-year-old boy, however, has still not been arraigned, though Oakland County Jail has posted her mugshot, ClickOnDetroit.com reports. Sanroman’s alleged sexual relationship with the teenager took place in 2023 while she worked at Oakside Prep Academy, a charter school in Waterford Township that is part of the National Heritage Academies system and touts its “Moral Focus” program helping students “discern and appreciate the difference between right and wrong,” according to the school’s website.
Sanroman reportedly discussed the sexual relationship with another teacher, who then informed police, according to prosecutors.
“This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald via ClickOnDetroit.com.
“These allegations represent the ultimate breach of trust placed in educators by parents and the community. As a former teacher myself, I applaud the teacher who contacted police about this situation, protecting other students from further exploitation,” she added.
A third-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction could result in up to 15 years in prison.
