Predator: Badlands is reviving the iconic sci-fi franchise. But this time, we find ourselves in a post-apocalyptic desert where survival is a blood sport. Fans can expect plenty of heat, high-tech weaponry, and the return of the galaxy’s most dangerous hunter. Elle Fanning stars in this mash-up of sci-fi and robotics fun.
The film is officially set far in the future within the shared Alien/Predator universe — filling a gap in the timeline after previous entries. Rather than tying directly into past films, director Dan Trachtenberg chose to tell a self-contained story set “well into the future,” so new viewers don’t need deep franchise knowledge to jump in.
Meanwhile, Christy delivers edge-of-your-seat suspense as a young woman becomes trapped in a deadly psychological game that blurs the line between reality and delusion. Sydney Sweeney transforms herself into the real-life Christy Martin and gives a surprisingly strong performance.
And finally, Die My Love brings raw emotion to the screen in a haunting adaptation of Ariana Harwicz’s novel about the complex emotional challenges of motherhood and mental health. Jennifer Lawrence’s performance is getting Oscar buzz, and many critics believe she could get a nomination. The film is visceral, sexual, and shines a light on the dark side of loneliness and post-partum depression.
Whether you’re in the mood for monsters, mind games, or melancholy, there’s something for everyone at the movies this weekend.
