Popular Generator Recalled Due To Serious Safety Hazard

Hundreds of thousands of popular generators sold at several nationwide stores are being recalled due to serious safety hazards, according to the the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Both CPSC and Costco have shared public warnings regarding at least 150,000 Generac-branded portable generators that may have gasoline leak when being filled, leading to potential fire and burn risks. Generac has received 114 reports of generator fuel leaks, though no injuries have been reported as of Wednesday (April 22).

The Generac generators were sold at Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s and several other retailers nationwide from May 2025 to February 2026 at prices ranking between $600 to $1,300, according to the CPSC. The recalled generators have orange/black cover and come in a steel-tube cradle with two wheels on the back and “Generac” and the “unit type” labeled on the side panels, according to the CPSC.

The recall includes the following unit and model numbers:

  • Unit: GP3600, Model number: G0077210
  • Unit: GP4000DF, Model number: G0081550
  • Unit: GP6500, Model number: G0076802, G0076722
  • Unit: GP6500E, Model number: G0077130
  • Unit: GP6500EDF, Model number: G0081530
  • Unit: GP6700EDF, Model number: G0080620

  • Unit: GP9200E, Model number: G0079712
  • Unit: GP9500ETF, Model number: G0080630

Generators that have previously been filled with enough gasoline to move the gauge off “E” or haven’t experienced gasoline leakage issues are still permitted for use, while consumers with any recalled items should stop using them immediately, according to the CPSC.
