Popular Food Item Recalled Over ‘Life-Threatening’ Undeclared Ingredients

A popular tortilla brand has recalled its product due to “the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions” by consumption, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on Wednesday (March 18).

Mama Grande Tortilla Factory, which is based in Mission, Texas, recalled its Gorditas de Azucar and Doraditas de Azucar tortillas on Tuesday (March 17) after discovering that they may contain undeclared wheat and soy. The recalled items were distributed from February 2, 2026 to March 5, 2026 to retail stores and wholesale customers in Texas and can be identified as:

  • Gorditas de Azucar – UPC 860010238134 – All Expiration Dates
  • Doraditas de Azucar – UPC 5901234123457 – All Expiration Dates

The product name and corresponding UPC code are labeled on the front of the plastic bag packaging. No illnesses were reported at the time of publication.

Consumers who have a wheat or soy allergy or sensitivity are strongly advised to discard or return the product to its place of purchase and retailers should immediately remove the product from sale. Mama Grande is sold at major Texas retailers such as H-E-B and online as a “best-selling” product on Amazon, gaining popularity through its niche focus health-conscious options such as gluten-free, vegan, and low-calorie Nopal Cactus options.
