Popular Airline Announces ‘Relax Row’ That Transforms To Mattress

United Airlines announced its new ‘United Relax Row,’ option, which will allow customers to purchase a row of three seats in the United Economy cabin that can be transformed into a lie-flat mattress after takeoff on long-haul flights.

“The entire row is alllllll yours,” United Airlines wrote in a post shared on its X account Tuesday (March 24).. “Welcome to United Relax Row, three adjacent United Economy seats with adjustable leg rests that can each be raised or lowered to create a cozy lie-flat space for stretching out… You’ll also get a mattress pad, blanket and two pillows. If you’re traveling with kids, a plushie too! United Relax Row will be available starting next year on more than 200 of our 787s and 777s, each with up to 12 of these brand-new rows.”

The new United Relax Row will include three seats with individually adjustable leg rests that fold up to a 90-degree angle to allow more sleep room for solo travelers, couples and families traveling with small children, according to a news release. United Relax Row is expected to launch in 2027 and be offered on more than 200 Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircrafts by 2030.

“As a leading premium airline, we’re committed to delivering new, industry-leading experiences for all of our customers – and the United Relax Row is the perfect example of that. Customers traveling in United Economy on long-haul flights deserve an option for more space and comfort, and this is one way we can deliver that for them,” said Andrew Nocella, United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, in the news release. “United is the only North American airline offering a product like the United Relax Row and is one of the many reasons why we’re continuing to win brand loyal customers.”
