LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Law enforcement agencies around Los Angeles County are planning beefed-up patrols Monday to encourage St. Patrick’s Day revelers to not drink and drive.
The Los Angeles Police Department plans a saturation patrol from 3 to 11 p.m. Monday in the Hollywood and Wilshire areas, police officials said.
“Don’t rely on luck. Plan and make sure you have a sober way to get home,” the LAPD said in a press statement.
The Burbank Police Department also asked motorists not to rely on luck and designate a sober driver.
Burbank police plan to have extra officers on patrol between 6 p.m. Monday and 2 a.m. Tuesday looking for motorists suspected of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Law enforcement officers suggest using a ride-share service or public transportation if a designated driver isn’t available.
“Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day responsibly is about protecting not just yourself but everyone on the road,” Torrance Police Department Sgt. David Koenig said. “Let’s work together to make this holiday memorable for all the right reasons. Make a plan for a safe ride home.”
Torrance planned additional officers to patrol from 5 p.m. Monday to midnight Tuesday.
