Pilot Provides Surprise Gesture For Passengers After Emergency Landing

A United Airlines pilot is being praised for going above and beyond after having to make an emergency landing. Tanya Stamos told Fox News that she was on a flight from San Francisco, California, to Houston, Texas, when the pilot announced there was a medical emergency.

“Not long into our flight, the captain had come on and asked if there were any health care professionals, [and] if so, please let the flight attendant know and head to the back of the plane,” she said via email.

Stamos explained that a man passed out in the bathroom, and the pilot decided to land in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to get him medical assistance.

The passengers stayed on the plane while the man was taken off by paramedics. They were told they would be taking off in about an hour to give time for the crew to refurbish the medical equipment on the flight.

Stamos said that a short time later, the flight crew said everybody had to get off the plane. After several hours of waiting around, the airline offered passengers $15 food vouchers. Unfortunately, by then, most of the restaurants at the airport were closed.

That’s when the pilot took matters into his own hands. To ensure that everybody on the flight could get some food, he ordered 30 pizzas for the 150 passengers.

“Most organizations do not go above and beyond, but that captain did not hesitate,” she said, adding, “His display that evening is what we should have more of selfless acts of love, compassion, and humanity.”

After waiting around for seven hours, the passengers were able to reboard the plane and continued onto Houston, landing around 2 a.m. local time.

Stamos also shared the story on TikTok.
