City officials in West Hollywood are alerting the public to an increase in pickpocketing incidents at local bars and nightclubs. The area, known for its vibrant nightlife, has become a target for thieves who often prey on intoxicated or distracted individuals. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, nearly 400 thefts were reported in 2024, with expectations for these numbers to rise as summer and Pride season approach.
Adam Eramian, Chair of West Hollywood’s Public Safety Commission, expressed concern over the city’s growing reputation as a hotspot for cell phone thefts. Kristofer Bowers, a local resident, shared his experience of having his phone stolen while out with friends. “I did, at the time, tend to leave my phone on the bar in front of me,” Bowers told KTLA. “Out of nowhere, it disappeared.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has implemented undercover sting operations and relies on venue security and public awareness to combat the issue. Sgt. Jason Duron explained that the Entertainment Policing Team, funded by the city, focuses on educating the public and bar staff about the problem.
To further raise awareness, city officials are considering the use of public LED boards to warn patrons. While there has been a slight decrease in thefts in 2025, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant. Visitors are advised to keep their phones in front pockets or zipped bags and stay aware of their surroundings while enjoying a night out in West Hollywood.
