Photos Show Horrific Conditions Where Man Was Held Captive By Stepmom

New photos have emerged revealing the dire conditions inside a Waterbury, Connecticut home where a man was allegedly held captive by his stepmother for over 20 years. Kimberly Sullivan, 56, faces charges including first-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping for allegedly keeping her stepson confined in squalid conditions.

The 32-year-old man, who escaped in February by setting a fire, was found severely emaciated, weighing only 68 pounds. He told police he had been held captive since he was 11 years old. Photos obtained by WVIT through a Freedom of Information request show a cluttered and charred interior, with locks on the outside of doors.

The man had minimal food and water and was often confined to a small room. The Waterbury Police Department described the conditions as a “house of horrors.”

Sullivan has pleaded not guilty and is currently out on a $300,000 bond. Her attorney claims the man was properly cared for. The case has sparked outrage and prompted a review by the Department of Children and Families, which had prior involvement with the family. Sullivan is due back in court on April 22.
