Permit Driver Crashes in Laguna Beach, Passenger Dies

A tragic accident in Laguna Beach, California, resulted in the death of an adult male passenger and left a young permit driver severely injured on Monday (May 26). The Laguna Beach Police Department reported that the crash occurred at approximately 4:14 p.m. on Coast Highway between Wesley and Montage Resort drives. The vehicle, driven by the permit holder, fell about 40 feet down an embankment after breaching a fence barrier in the upper parking lot of a Gelson’s Market.

According to a preliminary investigation, the vehicle did not initially crash on the highway but ended up there after plummeting from the parking lot. The car landed upside down on the side of Coast Highway. The young driver, whose age and gender have not been disclosed, sustained significant injuries and was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for treatment. The adult male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Laguna Beach Police Department expressed their condolences to the families affected by the incident. They have not confirmed the relationship between the driver and the passenger, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
