Passengers Evacuated After Engine Fire Forces Plane’s Emergency Landing

A Southwest Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Houston’s Hobby Airport on Thursday (April 17) after a reported engine fire. The plane, which was heading to Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico, returned to the airport shortly after takeoff. The flight landed safely at 11:30 a.m., and all 134 passengers were evacuated using emergency slides.

The Houston Fire Department responded promptly to the incident, extinguishing the engine fire and a small grass fire near the runway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and passengers were transported back to the terminal.

The incident did not disrupt other flights at the airport, and emergency crews quickly managed the situation. Southwest Airlines praised the professionalism of its flight crew and emphasized that safety is their top priority.

“We appreciate the professionalism of our flight crew in responding to this situation. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees,” Southwest Airlines said.

Officials are investigating the cause of the engine fire.
