Pasadena Wildlife Center Faces Closure for Luxury Apartments

Cleo Watts, who runs the Critter Care Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation center in Pasadena, is urgently seeking a new location after learning her current property will be developed into luxury apartments. The center, which provides vital care to sick and injured animals in the greater Los Angeles area, played a significant role in rescuing wildlife during the Eaton fire. Now, with the landlord’s decision to redevelop the site, Watts is left with the difficult task of finding a new home for her nonprofit organization.

Watts expressed her concerns to KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw, stating, “Our landlord is going to be demoing and building luxury apartments, so we’re basically forced to shut our doors or we need to find another location, desperately.” The timing is particularly challenging as it coincides with baby season, a critical period for wildlife care.

Currently, the center is rehabilitating several animals, including baby raccoons, which require specific permits and care. Volunteer Lindsay Murray noted the scarcity of resources for raccoons, highlighting the importance of the center’s work. Watts describes her organization as a labor of love, emphasizing the need to respect and care for these sentient beings.

With no new location secured, Watts is worried about the future of the animals in her care and those who may need help in the future. She is hopeful that a new space will be found soon so that her essential work can continue. Those interested in helping can contact Watts via email cleoscrittercareca@gmail.com or visit the center’s GoFundMe page for more information.
