Oxnard Soccer Coach Arrested on Unrelated Sex Assault Charge

As authorities investigate the death of 13-year-old Oscar Omar Hernandez in Oxnard, California, a man identified by the family as his soccer coach has been arrested on an unrelated charge. Mario Garcia Aquino, 43, was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with a separate sexual assault case from February 2024, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Oscar Hernandez was found dead in a ditch earlier this week, approximately 70 miles from his home in the San Fernando Valley. His family reported that he was last seen with his soccer coach, Aquino, who was questioned about Oscar’s disappearance. However, Aquino’s arrest is related to a different case, where he faces one count of assault with intent to commit another felony, including attempted rape, sodomy, or oral copulation, as reported by TMZ.

Oscar’s family had been in contact with him through video chat on the day he went missing. His mother, Gladys Maribel Bautista, shared that Oscar had gone to Aquino’s house to help paint soccer jerseys. The family became concerned when they called Oscar, and Aquino answered, explaining that Oscar could not speak because his hands were covered in paint, according to AOL.

While Aquino is considered a person of interest in Oscar’s case, he has not been named a suspect. The investigation into Oscar’s death is ongoing.
