LSI, Inc., a South Dakota company, has recalled over 2.2 million pounds of Korean barbecue pork jerky due to potential contamination with metal pieces. The jerky, sold at Costco and Sam’s Club stores nationwide, was voluntarily pulled after customers reported finding wiry metal in the product, according to the U.S. Agriculture Department. The metal is believed to have originated from a conveyor belt used during production. Fortunately, no injuries have been confirmed.
The recall affects 14.5-ounce and 16-ounce plastic pouches of “Golden Island fire-grilled pork jerky Korean barbecue recipe.” Approximately four dozen lots are impacted, with best-by dates ranging from October 23, 2025, to September 23, 2026. The packages bear the establishment number M279A inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Federal health officials advise consumers not to eat the recalled jerky and to dispose of it or return it to the store for a refund. Contamination with foreign objects like rocks or insects occasionally occurs in U.S.-produced food, and consumers are encouraged to report such findings to manufacturers.
