Suffolk County police arrested 13 individuals on Sunday (July 20) after breaking up an unauthorized fight club in Shirley, Long Island. The arrests followed reports of gunshots fired at the event, which took place around 6 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an altercation at the fight club, where one attendee had brandished and fired a blank-firing gun. This incident resulted in injuries to a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old, who were subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment. The majority of those arrested were between the ages of 16 and 20.
Devine Brown, one of the attendees, faces charges of assault, prohibitive use of a weapon, unlawful assembly, and menacing. He was held overnight and is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
It remains unclear whether this fight club had gathered prior to the incident. A similar event occurred about a month ago in Melville’s Walt Whitman Park, where two 19-year-olds were arrested after their fight, promoted on social media, attracted over 70 spectators.
