Johnsonville, LLC has recalled 22,672 pounds of Cheddar bratwurst sausage due to possible contamination with hard plastic. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on Saturday (April 5). The affected sausages were produced on February 5, 2025, and were shipped to retail locations in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The issue was discovered after Johnsonville received two consumer complaints about finding hard plastic in the bratwurst. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far. The recalled sausages were sold in 19-ounce sealed firm tray packages containing five pieces each, with the label “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst” and package code B9FOD. The establishment number “Est. 1647” is printed on the label.
Consumers are urged not to consume the recalled products. Instead, they should dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. The FSIS is concerned that some consumers may still have the product in their freezers. For further information, consumers can contact Amanda Fritsch, Johnsonville’s Consumer Relations Coordinator, at 888-556-2728 or via email at anachtweyfritsch@johnsonville.com. The FSIS will post a retail distribution list on their website once it is available.
