SHERMAN OAKS (CNS) – One person was killed and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision involving a wrong-way driver that backed up traffic Tuesday for miles on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Sherman Oaks.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at 4:06 a.m. Tuesday to the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway near the Valley Vista Boulevard exit where they collision began, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
Garcia said reports from the scene indicated a motorist driving the wrong way was involved in the crash, but he did know to what extent.
Firefighters dispatched to the location at 4:10 a.m. pronounced one person dead at the scene, said Mark McLean of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Paramedics rushed one person, in unknown condition, to a hospital. One patient declined medical treatment and was released at the scene, McLean said.
A SiglAlert was issued at 4:26 a.m. closing all southbound lanes for an unknown duration, the CHP said.
