The desperate search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has entered its 13th day as investigators release new details about a suspect seen on doorbell camera footage at her Tucson, Arizona home.
The FBI has doubled its reward to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.
Based on forensic analysis of the doorbell camera video, investigators are now looking for a man approximately 5’9″ to 5’10” tall with an average build. The suspect was wearing a black, 24-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack – a brand exclusively sold at Walmart.
“We hope the updated description of the suspect will help concentrate tips,” the FBI said, noting they’ve received more than 13,000 tips from the public since February 1. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office reports receiving nearly 18,000 tips.
The case saw a significant breakthrough earlier this week when the FBI released chilling surveillance footage showing a masked person approaching Guthrie’s home during the timeframe authorities believe she was taken. The person appears to be tampering with the doorbell camera while wearing a ski mask, gloves, and what investigators have identified as a gun holster.
Investigators have asked residents within a two-mile radius of Guthrie’s home to share any camera footage and report suspicious activity noticed in the month before she disappeared. They’re particularly interested in footage of suspicious vehicles, as it remains unclear how the suspect arrived at Guthrie’s home.
Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter and TODAY show co-anchor, shared home videos of her mother on social media Thursday with the message: “Our lovely mom. We will never give up on her. Thank you for your prayers and hope.”
