Officers Wound, Arrest Allegedly Knife-Wielding Man in El Monte

EL MONTE (CNS) – A suspect allegedly wielding a knife is in custody Thursday, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer, in the aftermath of a shooting involving police officers in El Monte.

El Monte police officers were dispatched about 10:55 p.m. Wednesday to the 10000 block of Bodger Street, regarding reports of a person threatening neighbors with a knife, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located the suspect armed with a knife and gave him numerous verbal commands to drop the weapon,” according to a police statement. “The suspect failed to comply with the officers’ commands and rushed towards the officers at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

Paramedics took the suspect to a hospital, where he was subsequently released and taken into custody by the El Monte Police Department.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on a peace officer and booked at the El Monte Police station. A knife was recovered at the scene of the shooting and no officers were injured during the incident.
