LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Santa Claus was on his way to LA Wednesday, making his annual global trek to deliver toys and goodies on his reindeer-powered sleigh, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Claus is being tracked by radar, satellites and volunteers monitoring his progress at NORAD, the federal agency responsible for warning and defending North America against threats from the air and space, that has the capacity to track anything from aircrafts to missiles and spacecrafts.
According to NORAD officials, Santa departed the North Pole on schedule, setting off just after 5 a.m. GMT.
After initial stops in the South Pacific, the jolly bearded philanthropist, who some call St. Nick, will head to Australia and Asia before finishing his route.
He is expected to reach North America later Wednesday.
NORAD has been tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve for 70 years.
Families can follow Santa’s progress in real time at NORADSanta.org.
