Several House Democrats walked out of the House Chamber in protest of President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress.
On Tuesday (March 4), Democratic lawmakers, including Florida Rep. Maxwell Frost and Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, staged a walkout during Trump’s speech on Capitol Hill. A group of roughly 10 Democrats took off their jackets to reveal phrases protesting Trump’s remarks on their backs.
“RESIST,” Crockett’s shirt read. The statement on Frost’s shirt declared, “NO MORE KINGS.”
The walkout came as Democratic Rep. Al Green was removed from the chamber for standing in protest to Trump’s speech, during which he touted the “accomplishments” of his administration.
Green was standing in the aisle and waving his cane at the president when Speaker Mike Johnson warned lawmakers to maintain “decorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions.” Johnson ordered Green to take a seat before directing the House Sergeant at Arms to escort him out of the chamber.
Other Democratic lawmakers held up signs during Trump’s speech that read “That’s a lie,” “Musk Steals,” “Save Medicaid,” and “Protect Veterans.” The signage was reportedly organized by the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
