A newborn baby boy was discovered inside a dumpster in Riverside on Sunday, according to police reports. Officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to calls about a baby crying near an apartment complex on the 3800 block of Jackson Street around 2:30 p.m. The baby was found with his umbilical cord still attached, indicating he was recently born. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where he is in stable condition.
The police are actively investigating to locate the baby’s parents and understand the circumstances of his abandonment. It is unclear whether the baby was born at the location or brought there after birth. Officer Ryan Railsback of the Riverside Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing.
Under California’s Safely Surrendered Baby Program, parents or guardians can safely and anonymously surrender a newborn at designated locations, such as hospitals or fire stations, within 72 hours of birth without facing legal repercussions. This program aims to prevent unsafe abandonments like the one in Riverside.
