Newborn Found Dead Near USC; LAPD Investigates

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the death of a newborn baby girl found near the University of Southern California campus. On Monday, officers responded to the Cardinal Gardens Apartments on McClintock Avenue after receiving a call about a deceased infant. The baby, described as a “full-term infant,” was pronounced dead at the scene, and her death is currently classified as undetermined pending the medical examiner’s findings.

Earlier that evening, around 5:56 p.m., emergency services were called to the same location for a 20-year-old woman experiencing breathing difficulties. She was transported to a local hospital. Approximately an hour later, the fire department returned to the apartment complex after reports of an unresponsive infant. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office noted that the baby was only 19 hours old.

Authorities have not confirmed if the two incidents are related. The LAPD’s Juvenile Division is leading the investigation, and no arrests have been made. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The Cardinal Gardens Apartments, where the incident occurred, is a residential building on the north side of USC’s campus. The investigation is ongoing, and further details have yet to be released.
