An American woman is in police custody in France after a tragic incident involving her newborn baby. On Monday (February 24), authorities reported that a newborn baby was thrown from a second-floor window of a hotel in Paris. Despite receiving emergency medical care, the baby did not survive.
The Paris prosecutor’s office indicated that the case is being investigated as a homicide of a minor under the age of 15. The mother, identified only as a U.S. national, was part of a group of young adults traveling in Europe. The incident is being considered a potential “case of pregnancy denial,” a condition where a mother is unaware of or unable to accept her pregnancy.
According to Newsweek, the woman could face life in prison if she is convicted.
The woman, 18 years old, was taken to a hospital for a medical procedure following childbirth and is being held under police custody there. The Child Protection Brigade is leading the investigation into this tragic event.
