BP Pulse celebrated the opening of a new electric vehicle charging gigahub near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Tuesday. The U.K.-based company has installed 48 ultrafast chargers at the Inglewood location, marking it as BP Pulse’s largest EV charging station in the United States to date. The chargers, which are compatible with various electric vehicle makes and models, are part of BP Pulse’s efforts to enhance infrastructure for EV drivers at high-traffic travel hubs.
The project, partially funded by a $2 million grant from the California Energy Commission, is designed to serve ride-hail and taxi fleets, as well as local EV drivers and rental car customers. According to Electrek, the site is located two miles from LAX and features both 150kW and 400kW charging options, along with CCS and NACS plugs.
In addition to charging facilities, the hub offers a range of amenities, including a lounge, vending machines, restrooms, and free Wi-Fi, making it a convenient stop for travelers. Martin Thomsen, Head of BP Pulse, emphasized the site’s role as a safe and comfortable place for people to rest and recharge. Sujay Sharma, CEO of BP Pulse Americas, highlighted the company’s commitment to expanding its charging network to more metro and airport locations across the U.S.
The launch of this gigahub builds on BP Pulse’s previously announced plans to develop similar hubs in collaboration with Hertz, aiming to support the growing demand for EV infrastructure in high-demand areas. The company also opened a gigahub near Boston Logan Airport earlier this year, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.
