A Southwest Airlines flight from Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport to Phoenix was disrupted on Monday (March 3) when a woman removed her clothes and caused a disturbance. Passengers were shocked as the woman walked up and down the aisle, demanding to be let out and attempting to enter the cockpit.
According to TMZ, Houston Police were called to the scene and found the woman in a state of crisis. She was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation. No injuries were reported, and the woman has not been arrested or charged at this time. Southwest Airlines has the option to file a complaint if they choose to press charges.
A passenger on the flight told KHOU that the woman stripped from head to toe and banged on the cockpit doors, screaming to be let out.
“When it first happened, it was really scary,” the passenger said.
The flight returned to the gate, where a gate agent wrapped the woman in a blanket. Southwest Airlines issued a statement apologizing for the delay and thanking passengers for their patience.
This incident is part of a series of troubling air travel events in recent weeks, including a fatal mid-air collision and several near-misses at various airports. The Federal Aviation Administration reports that unruly passenger incidents, although reduced from a peak in 2021, still exceeded 2,000 last year. Passengers are advised to remain calm and move away if possible during such incidents, intervening only if requested by the flight crew.
