At least five people have died after a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday (December 16). One of the victims was a juvenile, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said. Five others were injured in the shooting.
The suspected shooter, who was also a juvenile, was found dead at the scene.
Barnes said that officers responded to a call of an active shooter at the school just before 11 a.m. local time. When they arrived, they found multiple victims with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to the hospital with various injuries, ranging from minor to life-threatening.
“Today is a sad, sad, day,” Barnes said. “Not just for Madison, but for our entire country.”
Officers are working to clear the building.
“I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond,” Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers wrote on X.
