A shooting occurred outside the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada, on Monday morning (July 28), resulting in multiple injuries. The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. in the valet area of the casino, according to Reno police spokesperson Chris Johnson. The gunman was apprehended and is currently being treated at a hospital.
Reno city council member Devon Reese shared in a Facebook post that some victims have died, though he did not specify the number. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that an officer was involved in the shooting. Authorities have advised residents to avoid the area as emergency vehicles, including ambulances, responded to the scene.
The Grand Sierra Resort, known for having the largest casino floor in northern Nevada, is located a few blocks from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. It is one of the tallest buildings in the city, with nearly 2,000 hotel rooms.
In a social media post, Reese expressed his condolences, stating, “My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong – but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation.”
