The Minneapolis Police Department is responding to an active shooter situation at a church and Catholic School in the south side of the city on Wednesday (August 27) morning. According to KARE, the gunman opened fire at Annunciation Church, resulting in multiple casualties. Some of the victims are reportedly children. At least 20 people were shot, and at least two people have died. Four people are in critical condition.
KMSP reported that the school children were attending morning mass at the time of the shooting.
The City of Minneapolis posted on social media that the suspect is “contained” and that there is no longer an “active threat to the community.”
Star Tribune reporter Sofia Barnett is at the scene and said that law enforcement is escorting students and parents the basement of the school.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI are assisting with the investigation.
Wednesday’s shooting follows another one in which one person was killed and six others were injured when a man with a rifle opened fired on a crowd of people across the street from a high school on Tuesday.
