MSNBC President Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler has she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer and will take a temporary leave of absence from the network, the network confirmed in a statement to the New York Post on Wednesday (October 15).

Kutler, 46, a mother of three, who took over after former president Rashida Jones stepped down in January, reportedly told staffers that she has a good prognosis for recovery, according to CNN‘s Brian Stelter, who initially reported the news. The network president revealed her diagnosis to executives and main anchors one day prior.

Kutler previously served as MSNBC‘s senior vice president of content strategy before initially taking over as president on an interim basis following Jones’ departure. MSNBC didn’t provide additional comments on Kutler’s condition in its statement to the New York Post.

MSNBC will be renamed MS NOW and will drop the iconic NBC peacock symbol from its logo amid its spinoff into the new ‘Versant’ company. CNBC, on the other hand, will keep its name, which is short for Consumer News and Business Channel, but is expected to also get a new logo without the NBC peacock.

Other Comcast channels such as Golf Channel, GolfNow and SportsEngine are also expected to be rebranded amid the spinoff. Comcast Corp, NBCUniversal’s parent company, said MSNBC would be joining CNBC, Oxygen, E! Syfy and the Golf Channel as part of a new company, initially called SpinCo, while NBC News, NBC Sports, Telemundo, Bravo and the streaming service Peacock would all remain under the NBCUniversal umbrella last November.
