Authorities in San Antonio are investigating the tragic deaths of a three-year-old girl and her six-year-old brother, who were found deceased in a hot car on Saturday (September 20). The children’s mother, Tiona Lasaisha Islar, has been arrested after Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar noted “inconsistencies with the story” she provided to authorities.
According to Sheriff Salazar, Islar claimed she last saw her children, Sevani Stevenson and Miyani Islar, inside their home around 10 a.m. before she fell asleep. She reported finding them in the car around 3 p.m. and brought them inside before calling for help. Deputies arrived at the scene in the Alamo Ranch area at approximately 3:25 p.m. and attempted CPR, but the children were pronounced dead by paramedics.
Islar, 28, has been charged with two counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury or death. She is currently held in the Bexar County jail with bail set at $300,000, as reported by The Independent.
Sheriff Salazar has expressed concerns about the inconsistencies in Islar’s account and mentioned previous calls to Child Protective Services regarding the family’s welfare. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is still determining the cause and manner of the children’s deaths. This incident marks the ninth and tenth hot car deaths in Texas this year, highlighting a growing concern over such tragedies. According to Express News, there have been 29 hot car deaths nationwide as of early September.
